![]() This was a really interesting read and it’s great to see someone sticking to their opinion and not worrying about “Big Brand Bullying” ! So in summary, Yankee Candle dominates the candle market but I’m getting the vibe that lately they’re more concerned with their bottom line rather than producing a high quality product for their customers.įeel free to roast me in the comments section! I’ve got thick skin… I think. at least crap smells like something!) behind a once esteemed brand name. It’s important to note, of course, that not all of their candles are majorly lacking, but it still seems they’re content peddling a lot of crap (No. They don’t have the luxury of having the most dominant name brand in the industry. Why? Because they have to in order to survive. Even the “mom and pop” shops on Etsy are going to be able to offer you better quality for your money. These days there are way too many alternate candle companies that offer more affordable and less “risky” candles in my opinion. Someone tell me why I should drop an extra $23 dollars on a name brand whose scent throw consistency doesn’t even come close? My $5 large jar candles I pick up on occasion from Walmart consistently have a medium to strong scent throw. IF IT DOESN’T SMELL LIKE ANYTHING don’t slap a pretty label on it and tell me it’s going to transport me to the winter woods, the mountain lake, or a misty meadow. Seriously, how hard is it to test a candle’s scent before releasing it? Just light it up and wait 30 minutes or so. I can only speculate but it feels like today Yankee Candle spends more time designing their labels for their candles than actually doing quality assurance testing on their products. Meadow Mist and Lake Sunset scents were also a couple that I picked up in my last haul. ![]() The prior Yankee Candle I burned, Winter Woods, was hardly much better. Not really, but I think you get my point. I can no longer deny the fact that at least half of the Yankee Candle’s I’ve recently purchased have offered zero to minuscule scent throw even in the tiniest of rooms. My latest Yankee Candle that I’ve been burning however has been the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back. So as the creator of a candle blog why would I go out of my way to potentially alienate a large portion of my readership? At the end of the day it comes down to being true to myself and to you the reader.įor several months now, and with each scentless or near scentless candle I burn from this company, I’ve found myself trying to give Yankee Candle the benefit of the doubt. I mean heck, right here on this blog one of my favorite posts I did was with the Yankee Candle Sisters who run their own Yankee Candle blog. that are dedicated to espousing their unconditional love for this company. There are countless blogs, Facebook groups, twitter users, etc. Yankee Candle sits alone atop the candle world and by far has the biggest fanbase amongst candle users world wide. I’ve been wrestling with whether or not to even publish this post. Is it worth the risk to try to kill them while they're attention is focused on killing computer-controlled cannibals? Maybe it would be better to leave them to it? Perhaps they're taking on an AI-controlled outpost. If you do spot an enemy team, there's a debate to be had. It wants PvP encounters to be meaningful. Scavengers doesn't feel like it wants you to run into enemy players a lot of the time. Thrown into the mix are all the other teams. The cold kills you in this game, and you really do feel it. Eventually, your entire health meter will be encased in ice, and then you're dead. Expire your temperature meter and your health meter will begin to freeze over. Stand next to a fire and your temperature meter will refill, but the cold is always a concern. You can see your temperature declining in a meter on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen, as the game warns you to get to shelter. They cause a hell of a racket, so you can't hear what's going on. For a start they obscure your vision (and some players will no doubt use that to their advantage). And when you're caught in one they proper mess things up. Rather, they move about the map, affected by the direction of the wind. You can see the storms, which have various categories of intensity, in the distance as you're playing, and on the map as white circles. Scavengers' dynamic weather system is perhaps the best thing about the game. But uplinks in use cast a bright beam of light into the sky. Do you go for that uplink to bank your datapoints? You can see why this is a popular strategy - uploaded datapoints can't be stolen by enemies who kill you. Uplinks let you bank your datapoints, so even if you die you retain them.Īll the while, you need to plan your steps carefully, simply because getting caught in a storm can have such a devastating effect. Only then did my team switch to focus on gathering datapoints. I'm not sure this is how matches will play out after the game comes out, but in my preview the early focus was on racing to level up my character so I could upgrade my shield and craft my signature weapon. Each character has a different signature weapon, for example a hand cannon, a shotgun, a sniper rifle, that kind of thing. ![]() Certainly in the early to mid-game, the focus is instead on fighting the AI and scavenging for enough resources to be able to upgrade things like your shield, and then craft your signature weapon. Encounters with enemy players are rare for the majority of the match. Really, Scavengers feels big, and I think that has less to do with the size of the map, and more to do with the 60-player count limit. But it doesn't collapse to the point where players are crammed into a tiny area at the end. In classic battle royale fashion, the map does shrink over time as a large border storm collapses inward. There's a lot to consider, a lot to think about before you even get to the point of shooting someone in the face. Strategic sites offer supply drops and the chance to "bank" your datapoints. Elsewhere, there are tactical stashes that contain important items, such as ammo, food, health and scrap. There may be a roaming boss for you to consider. There may be an Outlanders outpost (Outlanders are the cannibalistic remnants of human life on Earth). There may be a Scourge Growth (Scourge are horrible diseased monsters that have emerged on the Earth). Sprinkled on the map are objectives, each presenting an opportunity for more loot and resources, but each with its own associated risk. Other items give you brief respite against the cold. Your maximum stamina depletes over the course of a match as you perform actions such as sprinting, but you can regain it by eating food. You then, as the name of the game suggests, scavenge for loot - weapons, items, resources, things you use to kill stuff and things you use to keep yourself alive. ![]() If you are a family member of this service member, you may contact your casualty office representative to learn more about your service member. However, there is a definite risk involved within these competitions, because if you don't manage to best the other team's score, you'll lose your best player and any side wagers placed. Depending on what the opposing team wagers, you can earn additional Roster or Skill Points, as well as take that team's best player. However, you can also potentially steal some players from opposing teams if you decide to accept their challenge at a mini-game, such as Pocket Passing or Coffin Kick drills. The number of points that you receive depends on how handily you beat opponents, but you'll permanently improve the stats of any players on your Fantasy Challenge team. Fortunately, as you progress through each game and defeat teams, you'll receive bonus skill points which you can use to improve the stats of players on your team. It'll take every skill you have to defeat these teams and take the Supreme Championship home. For instance, one team cheats all throughout the game, while another squad constantly triggers fumbles due to their hard hits. ![]() Unlike the earlier three leagues, the Supreme Leagues feature EA created "super teams," each with their own quirk to their gameplay. Players will initially start off in the Newbie League to get the hang of the shortened schedule and rigors of the Fantasy Challenge, but will quickly progress to the Black and Blue League and the Powerhouse League before reaching the final Supreme Leagues. Once the negotiations and trades are complete, you'll take on players in a shortened three round league "season, which culminates in a four team, single elimination playoff to determine the best organization. If you take on the challenge, you better have the skills to win. To keep these athletes on your squad, you'll need to match their deal with Roster Points or you'll be forced to release them. While you can lock three players to your team and permanently remove them from the trade block, having roster points are important because in some cases, teams will try to negotiate a player away from your team by offering them a deal. Frequently, you'll find yourself offered these deals by other teams, who are looking to do the same, even offering remaining Roster Points to sweeten the deal for you. Players can attempt to broker trades between teams for athletes that you want or need to bolster your chances of winning. Don't feel that you have to keep these lower rated players on your team, however. As you make more and more selections, you'll find that you'll inevitably need to select lower valued athletes to afford the stars that you want. On the other hand, you'd have to weigh making acquisitions like this early versus selecting a highly rated quarterback like Tom Brady or receiver like Marvin Harrison to shore up the offensive side of the ball. ![]() For instance, if you wanted to select the Broncos Defensive Back squad, anchored by Champ Bailey and Dre Bly to support the Bears Linebacker Corps with Lance Briggs and Brian Urlacher, you'd lay out a few hundred points to establish a fearsome defensive team. During the mini-draft, the value really comes into play as you start picking up package squads during each round. Regardless of how you decide to establish your squad, you'll have 730 Roster Points that you can use to "purchase" players, based on their estimated value for the mode. Players can also participate in a mini-draft, which is a fast paced, 15 round draft selection to choose people for your team. You can hand pick players from all 32 teams to make your Dream Team, or toss some Hall of Famers in the mix in a HoF Dream Draft. Purists may want to take their existing roster from the game and try to make a run for it, while other players have the opportunity to build their squad from three other methods. You start along your path to glory by selecting your favorite team and deciding what kind of a draft you'll engage in. Furthermore, since the electrolyte level has dropped, a portion of the plates are now exposed to air, causing plate oxidation and reducing battery capacity. The concentration of the sulfuric acid in the electrolyte increases, which is damaging to the battery plates and reduces battery life. Overcharging lead-acid batteries causes the electrolyte water to break into oxygen and hydrogen gas, which depletes electrolyte levels in the batteries. Both the overcharging and undercharging of lead-acid batteries will cause battery life degradation.įigure 1: Top of stack voltage is not divided evenly across the batteries in the stack Since not all batteries in the stack will share the charge evenly, some of the batteries in the stack might be severely overcharged while one or more of the other batteries in the stack may remain undercharged. Figure 1 depicts a scenario in which the top of the stack voltage is programmed to be 53.2V, but the individual battery voltages are unknown and may not all be 13.6V. In most series-connected battery stacks, only the voltage at the top of the stack is measured, and it is assumed the batteries in the stack are matched and hence share charge equally. This problem is true for all battery stacks made with batteries of any chemistry, not just lead-acid batteries. Replacing a failed battery itself does not solve the problem, since the replacement battery’s characteristics will be very different from the other batteries in the stack, and stack failure would recur. At that point, the entire battery stack is deemed to be bad, and all the batteries in the stack require replacement. Batteries connected in series will drift over time due to unequal leakage currents, and capacities of individual batteries may change over time.Įxtreme operating conditions and frequent discharge cycles further exacerbate these problems, which eventually cause one of the batteries in the stack to fail. There are variations in battery specifications due to limitations in the manufacturing process, and when multiple batteries are stacked in series these specifications no longer apply to the battery stack. Furthermore, these specifications only apply to a single battery. When batteries are manufactured, they must conform to tight specifications for parameters such as energy capacity, ESR (effective series resistance), leakage current, and the number of discharge cycles before failure to ensure quality, guarantee a minimum lifetime, and meet various standards. When a single lead-acid battery in the stack fails, all the lead-acid batteries in the series stack need to be replaced to maintain battery stack performance. In all the examples, two or more lead-acid batteries are connected in series. Golf carts and other industrial electric vehicles are typically powered by a stack of series-connected lead-acid batteries. Series-connected lead-acid batteries find extensive use in the UPS (uninterruptible power supply) industry to provide backup power when the mains power is lost. Energy storage solutions (ESS) use lead-acid batteries in a variety of series and parallel configurations to store energy generated by renewable sources such as wind and solar. ![]() The telecom industry uses a series stack of four lead-acid batteries to provide a 48V stack. When the German naturalist Johann Friedrich Gmelin revised and expanded Carl Linnaeus's Systema Naturae in 1788 he included the yellow-crested cockatoo based on the accounts by earlier naturalists. Then in 1764 George Edwards included the "Lesser white cockatoo with a yellow crest" in his Gleanings of natural history from a pet bird kept at a home in Essex, and in 1779 French polymath Comte de Buffon included the bird in his Histoire Naturelle des Oiseaux. In 1760 the French zoologist Mathurin Jacques Brisson included "Le Kakatoes à hupe jaune" in his Onithologie based on a live bird that he had seen in Paris. In 1738 English naturalist Eleazar Albin included a description and illustration of the "Cockatoo or White crested parrot" in his A Natural History of Birds based on a bird displayed at "The Tiger" tavern on Tower Hill in London. In the 18th century yellow-crested cockatoos was imported into Europe as pets and these birds were described by various naturalists. The yellow-crested cockatoo's diet consists mainly of seeds, buds, fruits, nuts, and herbaceous plants. The citron-crested cockatoo, which is a subspecies of the yellow-crested cockatoo, is similar, but its crest is clearly orange. Also, the yellow-crested cockatoo's crest is a brighter color, closer to orange. It is easily confused with the larger and more common sulphur-crested cockatoo, which has a more easterly distribution and can be distinguished by the lack of pale yellow coloring on its cheeks (although some sulphur-cresteds develop yellowish patches). The yellow-crested cockatoo is found in wooded and cultivated areas of East Timor and Indonesia's islands of Sulawesi and the Lesser Sundas. The yellow-crested cockatoo ( Cacatua sulphurea) also known as the lesser sulphur-crested cockatoo, is a medium-sized (about 34-cm-long) cockatoo with white plumage, bluish-white bare orbital skin, grey feet, a black bill, and a retractile yellow or orange crest.
